Eco Fabrics

Choosing natural fabrics is a key part of our mission. Natural materials feel better on the skin and are gentler on the planet compared to synthetic alternatives. While we know no choice is perfect, we strive to use materials that align with our values of minimising harm and embracing sustainable practices.
Here's a closer look at the fabrics we've chosen, their qualities, and why they inspire our designs:
GOTS-certified organic cotton
Organic cotton is a pillar of our fabric selection for its purity, softness and natural appearance. Without any harsh treatments, It's hypoallergenic, breathable, and gentle on sensitive skin, making it ideal for everyday wear. Additionally, it has a high durability factor, ensuring garments last longer, which aligns with our commitment to slow fashion.
GOTS-certified organic cotton with 5% spandex
For designs that require more flexibility, we use organic cotton blended with 5% spandex. This small addition provides stretch and resilience while maintaining cotton's breathable and natural qualities. Perfect for activewear or garments designed for ease of movement, this fabric offers functionality without compromising sustainability.
French linen
French linen is a sustainable luxury. Lightweight, highly breathable, and exceptionally durable, it's perfect for warmer climates or layering in cooler weather. Made from the flax plant, it requires minimal water and no chemical fertilisers, making it one of the most eco-friendly fabrics. Over time, French linen becomes softer, adding a timeless charm to every piece it creates.
Deadstock linen-cotton mix
The linen-cotton blend combines the best qualities of two beloved natural fabrics: the strength and breathability of linen with the softness and versatility of cotton. The result is a lightweight, comfortable material perfect for creating practical yet stylish garments that are easy to wear year-round.
Indonesian ramie-cotton mix
Ramie, derived from the stalks of a nettle-like plant, is a highly sustainable material known for its durability, resistance to wrinkling, and natural sheen. When blended with cotton, it creates a fabric that is soft yet strong, lightweight yet sturdy, making it an excellent choice for everyday wear.
55% hemp 45% OCS organic certified cotton
Hemp is one of the most sustainable fabrics, requiring very little water and no pesticides to grow. When blended with organic cotton, it creates a fabric that is incredibly strong, resistant to wear, and naturally breathable. Hemp-cotton fabric also offers natural UV resistance, making it a great choice for outdoor wear.
OEKO-TEX® 100 certified 100% bamboo satin
We use bamboo satin as a cruelty-free alternative to silk for designs that call for a silky, luxurious finish. While we acknowledge that bamboo fabric production isn't entirely natural, it remains a better choice than petroleum-based synthetic materials like polyester. Bamboo satin offers a smooth, elegant feel with a slight sheen that brings a touch of luxury to our collection, all while reflecting our ethical vegan values.
Striving for better choices
At Pure Ahi, we recognise that there is no "perfect" solution for sustainability. While we prioritise organic and natural materials, sourcing these fabrics isn't always straightforward. In some cases, choosing locally grown fabrics with a smaller carbon footprint is better for the environment than importing organic ones.
From our research, we've also learned that a significant amount of environmental harm in the textile industry comes from synthetic dyes. That's why we've decided to dye all our fabrics using organic botanical dyes. This process not only reduces chemical pollution but also adds a unique, earthy beauty to every piece we create.
